The mission of the Office of Strategic Initiatives (OSI) is to support University of Illinois system leadership on transformative initiatives, overseeing key projects through strategic planning and development in alignment with student education, research, public service, health care, and economic development.
OSI originated from SHIELD Illinois, the University of Illinois’ COVID-19 response program, which demonstrated our ability to serve public needs at scale. Today, we continue that mission by developing and executing high-impact programs across Illinois and beyond.

Strategic Planning
OSI develops comprehensive, forward-thinking strategies to align university initiatives with long-term goals. We conduct needs assessments, market analyses, and feasibility studies to ensure projects are mission-driven, sustainable, and impactful.
